English to Nepali typing
English letters in, Devanagari out: a conversion of sound, not of meaning.
Shortcuts: Ctrl/Cmd+Z undo · Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z redo · Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+C copy. Tip: use aa for ा, ii for ी, uu for ू; capital T/D/N give ट/ड/ण; type . for । and \. for a literal period; {braces} keep English as typed.
Private by default: your typing stays in this browser, and nothing you type is uploaded or sent to a server.
Type any Nepali letter
A lone “a” after a consonant is the built-in vowel (k + a = क), and “aa” gives the long vowel; capital letters give the retroflex sounds.

What English to Nepali typing does
English to Nepali typing converts the sound of Nepali words you write in English letters into Devanagari script. Type “ghar” and you get घर; type “khaanaa” and you get खाना. The conversion runs as you type, inside the page.
Transliteration, not translation
This page changes the script of Nepali words; it does not translate English words into Nepali. Typing “ghar” gives घर because that is how the word sounds. Typing “house” gives हउसे, because the tool hears an English word and spells it in Nepali letters. If you want घर, type “ghar”.
The sound rules in one screen
Consonants map to their closest Nepali sound: k→क, g→ग, j→ज, t→त, d→द, n→न, p→प, b→ब, m→म, y→य, r→र, l→ल, s→स, h→ह. Doubling a letter lengthens the vowel: aa→ा, ii→ी, uu→ू. Capitals T, D, N, Th, Dh and Sh give ट, ड, ण, ठ, ढ and ष. See also the Roman to Nepali rules .
Aspirated pairs
Nepali distinguishes kha/ख from ka/क and gha/घ from ga/ग, so an extra “h” matters. The same pattern gives chha/छ, jha/झ, tha/थ, dha/ध, pha/फ and bha/भ. Typing “ghar” and “khar” with the h left out produces different words. See also the Nepali keyboard .
Conjuncts
Where two consonants meet without a vowel between them, the first one takes a halant, which is written ्. “ksh” gives क्ष, “tr” gives त्र, “gya” gives ज्ञ and “shr” gives श्र, matching the conjuncts that have their own special shapes. See also typing Nepali on every platform .
What happens to English words inside a sentence
Put them in curly braces (“malai {email} pathau”) and the braces are removed but the English is left exactly as typed. Without braces, English words are spelled out in Devanagari, which is usually not what you want for a brand name or an address.
Translate English to Nepali typing? Not what this tool does
A search for “translate English to Nepali typing” is a request for meaning translation: an English sentence rendered in Nepali. This page is not that. It converts Nepali words you already spell in English letters into Devanagari, so “ghar” becomes घर. If you need the meaning, get a translation from a dictionary or a translation service first, then type the Nepali sentence here.
Do I need Google for English to Nepali typing?
People who search for “English to Nepali typing Google” are usually asking whether they must sign in or install a Google tool. They do not. No Google account, no Google Translate and no other third-party service is involved, and this site is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Google in any way.
Questions people ask
Does this translate English into Nepali?
No. It rewrites Nepali words that you typed with English letters into Devanagari. Meaning is never changed because the tool does not know any meanings.
Why did my English word come out strange?
Letters were read as Nepali sounds. Wrap it in curly braces, like {Facebook}, to keep it exactly as typed.
