A lone “a” after a consonant is the built-in vowel (k + a = क), and “aa” gives the long vowel; capital letters give the retroflex sounds.

What Nepali typing means here
Nepali typing means writing Devanagari, the script of the Nepali language, from an ordinary keyboard. This tool converts the Romanized Nepali you type (“namaste” becomes नमस्ते) into Unicode Devanagari as you go, and a small rule engine runs inside the page, so the text you type never leaves your device. How to use it

Why use Our Nepali Typing
It is an easy way to type Nepali when you cannot install a keyboard: free, with no registration, running entirely in the browser so nothing is uploaded, and producing standard Unicode that every modern phone and computer can display. Letters you will use most
A single “a” is the vowel built into a consonant, so “ka” is क. Long sounds double the letter: “aa” is ा and “ii” is ी. Capital T, D, N, Th, Dh and Sh give the retroflex letters ट, ड, ण, ठ, ढ and ष, which is why “tapai” becomes तपाईं but “Tikaa” becomes टिका. See also the Nepali Typeshala .
Where the output works
The result is standard Unicode Devanagari, so it can be pasted into Facebook, Messenger, Viber, WhatsApp, email, Google Docs, Word, a CMS or a text message and will display correctly on any device that has a Devanagari font, which is nearly all of them today.
Privacy by default
There is no account, no analytics script and no server call. “Remember my text” is off until you switch it on, and even then it is stored only in your own browser. See also Unicode typing .
Convert Preeti and Unicode
Not every file is written in Unicode. Older Nepali documents often use the legacy Preeti font, which stores Devanagari shapes in Latin letters and only looks right when the font is installed. Two small tools handle both directions: one turns a Preeti document into clean, searchable Unicode, and the other turns Unicode back into Preeti for print work and old templates.
